Conveyor Belt for Cement Plant

The whole cement manufacturing process from the quarry to the material crushing and processing to the cement plant is more complex. Moreover, the raw materials are highly abrasive and processed at high temperatures, so different processes require different cement conveyor belts.

Raw material extraction/quarrying

The limestone, clay or marl blasted at the quarry is dumped into the primary crusher by dump truck.

Coarse Crusher

Material from the quarry enters the jaw crusher for coarse crushing up to approximately 6 inches (150 mm) in size. The crushed material falls onto a belt or series of belts and is conveyed to stockpile.

The crushed limestone is still relatively large and sharp, so the conveyor belt is subjected to the impact and abrasion of the falling limestone. To ensure safe operation of the cement conveyor belt system, we recommend the use of impact resistant conveyor belts (with a multi-layer fabric carcass and steel crusher).

Limestone stockpile

Due to the characteristics of the cement industry, the distance from the quarry to the cement plant is relatively long. The crushed limestone is usually transported to the cement plant by conveyor belt, so the conveyor belt must cover a long distance. We recommend the use of wire rope conveyor belts.

Secondary crushing

After primary crushing, the limestone is secondarily crushed to sizes less than 6 inches (150 mm) until it is crushed to less than 1 inch (25 mm) for storage and batching.

Storage and Homogenization

The crushed limestone and other raw materials (such as sand, clay, fly ash and shale) are conveyed to the raw material storage area and then mixed in the required proportions.

Raw Grinding

The most common method of manufacturing cement is through a dry process.

The mixed material is dried and fed to a mill (vertical mill/ball mill) and crushed into a fine powder. It is recommended to use a wear resistant rubber conveyor belt to transport the material.

During the above mentioned stages of material handling, the conveyor belt cover can often clump together. Due to the high cost of cleaning procurement, installation and maintenance of belt sweeping systems or scrapers, the use of anti-stick conveyor belts is recommended. Its unique anti-adhesive coating prevents cement auxiliary materials from standing on the belt.

Clinker burning

High temperature processing steps include preheating the tower and kiln, heating the crushed raw material and sintering the mature material.

Fuels for cement calcination include coal and petroleum coke. A refractory and oil resistant conveyor belt should be used for transporting the fuels.

Cooling/Storage

The temperature of the clinker entering the clinker cooler drops rapidly. After cooling the clinker enters the clinker storage via belt conveyor. However, the temperature of the cooled clinker reaches up to 200 degrees Celsius and the high temperature accelerates the aging of ordinary belts.

Huayue heat resistant conveyor belt is very suitable for conveying hot clinker. Its rubber cover is extremely heat resistant and can withstand peak temperatures of up to 220°C, thus protecting the belt carcass and extending its service life.

Clinker Grinding

Cement grinding is the final process in cement manufacturing. The powdered cement clinker is ball-ground into a finished cement product.

Packing and loading

Corrugated sidewall belts are an efficient and long-term solution for improving bulk materials in the cement industry during the packaging and loading of finished products. These large angle and vertical belts can be used at the end of the production chain.
