Types of coal mine conveyor belts

Underground coal mine conveyor belt

Underground coal mines contain gas (methane), and coal is a flammable substance. Therefore, the primary requirement for selecting coal mine conveyor belts is to ensure the safety of underground coal mine transportation.

There are two kinds of flame retardant conveyor belts used in underground coal mines.

1.Solid woven conveyor belt

2.Steel cord core conveyor belt

 

Solid woven conveyor belt

Solid woven conveyor belt is a special conveyor belt for underground coal mine. It has the advantages of good flame retardant and anti-static performance, light weight, low manufacturing cost and good tear resistance. In addition, it is very easy to install and maintain. Therefore, the fabric whole-core flame retardant conveyor belt is the first choice for underground coal mines.

At present, more than 80% of underground coal mines in the market use fabric full-core flame retardant conveyor belts. There are two kinds of PVC (plastic) and PVG (rubber cover).

①PVC type solid weave conveyor belt PVC type solid weave conveyor belt

The carcass and cover layer of PVC are made of polyvinyl chloride. It is a kind of plastic product with poor environmental adaptability and climbing performance. The maximum inclination angle is 16°, and the suitable temperature is 10℃~40℃.

②PVG type solid weave conveyor belt PVG type solid weave conveyor belt

The outer cover of PVG type solid woven conveyor belt is a blend of rubber and PVC, and its environmental adaptability and climbing performance are better than those of PVC type. The conveying angle can be up to 20° under normal condition, and up to 25° if the cover has a pattern. Its suitable temperature is -10℃~50℃.

Solid woven conveyor belt is suitable for low to medium load capacity and low to medium speed conveying system.

 

Steel cord conveyor belt

Compared with solid woven conveyor belt, steel cord core conveyor belt has the advantages of high tensile strength, small elongation, impact resistance, large load capacity, long conveying distance and long service life. The temperature of steel cord core conveyor belt is generally -10℃~50℃, and the conveying inclination can reach 25°. If the cover with pattern is used, the conveying inclination can reach 30°. The strength range is 630 N~5400 N/mm, and the width range is 800~2200 mm.

Steel cord core conveyor belt is suitable for conveying system with high speed, large capacity and long distance.

 

Open-pit coal mine conveyor belt

Compared with underground coal mines, the transportation conditions of open pit coal mines are better, and the requirements of flame retardant and anti-static are no longer the main requirements. Priority should be given to physical and mechanical properties, while taking into account safety performance.

Due to the large variation of ambient temperature in surface and open pit coal mines, solid woven conveyor belts are not suitable for coal mine transportation in some countries and regions. Multi-layer fabric conveyor belt and steel cord conveyor belt should be preferred. When the temperature is lower than -10℃, it is necessary to choose cold-resistant multi-layer fabric or steel cord core conveyor belt.

Structure of coal mine conveyor belt

The conveyor belt is generally composed of carcass and cover.

Carcass

The carcass is the skeleton layer of the conveyor belt and can provide the necessary strength.

The carcass material of the layered conveyor belt consists of multiple layers of fabric. The carcass of solid woven conveyor belt is a monolithic structure made of three or more layers of woven cotton and chemical fibers. The carcass of a steel cord core conveyor belt consists of multiple longitudinally arranged steel cords.

Covering

The cover layer is the protective layer of the conveyor belt carcass, which protects the carcass from direct impact, abrasion and corrosion of the material. It can prevent premature damage to the carcass and prolong the service life of the conveyor belt.

The cover layer is divided into top cover and bottom cover. The surface in contact with the conveyed material is the top cover. According to different requirements of conveyor belt, there can be different cover grades, such as impact resistance, tear resistance, abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, heat resistance, cold resistance, etc.

 

Coal mine conveyor belt carcass material

The role of the carcass is to bear the force from inside and outside the conveyor belt, increase the strength of the belt and limit its deformation. It determines the performance, life and value of the conveyor belt to a large extent.

The carcass material of coal mine conveyor belt mainly includes cotton canvas, nylon canvas, polyester canvas, solid woven fabric and steel cord.

Cotton Canvas

Cotton canvas mainly includes polyester/cotton, propylene/cotton, pure cotton and other canvas. Cotton fiber has the characteristics of good adhesion to rubber, and the conveyor belt made of cotton canvas has the advantages of good flexibility and low price. It is mainly used for short distance transportation of small pieces of coal dust and coal powder on the ground. The disadvantages of cotton canvas are low strength, easy corrosion, short life, flame retardant and poor cold resistance.

Nylon canvas

Nylon canvas has nylon fiber in both radial and weft direction, good wear resistance and high strength. Nylon canvas conveyor belt has the advantages of thin belt body, high strength and impact resistance. However, the elongation of nylon fiber is high, so it is mostly used for conveyor belt with medium conveying distance and requiring good elasticity of the carcass. Nylon conveyor belt is widely used in open pit coal mines, coal processing plants and open pit mining.

Polyester Canvas

In addition to the advantages of nylon canvas, polyester canvas also has the advantages of low elongation, good heat resistance and low price. It is the most widely used conveyor belt material. Polyester canvas conveyor belt has the advantages of low elongation and impact resistance. It is mainly used for conveyor belts with large conveying distances, large loads, strong chemical resistance and dimensional stability. It is especially suitable for mining and transportation in surface and open-pit coal mines.

Solid woven material

Cloth core is a special base material for PVC and PVG flame retardant conveyor belts with strength range of 680n-2240n/mm. It is an integral structure of three or more layers woven from polyester and nylon cotton. The warp thread is usually nylon and polyester fiber, and the weft thread is nylon/cotton fiber. The whole-core flame retardant conveyor belt has no ply, and its comprehensive performance is better than that of ply fabric conveyor belt. It is the main variety of coal mine conveyor belt.

Steel Cord

Steel cord core conveyor belt for coal mine is generally made of No.70 high carbon steel by drawing and stranding. The steel wire used in the conveyor belt is galvanized on the surface. The diameter of steel wire rope ranges from 2.5 to 14 mm, and the strength ranges from 3.3 to 164 kN.

The technical parameters of coal mine conveyor belt include physical and mechanical performance indexes and safety performance indexes. Physical and mechanical performance indicators include physical properties of conveyor belt cover layer, full thickness tensile strength, and inter-ply bonding strength. The safety performance indicators include surface resistance and roller friction, etc.

Splicing method of coal mine conveyor belt

The strength of the conveyor belt is determined by the strength of the joint.

◭ The splicing strength of mechanical splicing is 60-65% of the original belt strength.

◭ The strength of a cold vulcanized splice is 75%-80% of the strength of the original belt.

◭ The strength of hot vulcanized joint can reach 90-95% of the original belt.

The layered fabric conveyor belt for coal mine can choose mechanical splicing, cold vulcanization and hot vulcanization according to the use environment and load. Steel cord core conveyor belts can only choose hot vulcanized joints. Solid woven conveyor belts (PVC/PVG) are generally mechanically spliced. When the strength exceeds 1250 N/mm, it is recommended to choose hot vulcanized joints.
